Bridesmaid dress and scheming

Is done, FINALLY. I didn't get much of anything else sewing-related done today; we're having the family over tomorrow for mother's day, and I had to clean and do seven tons of laundry. Which I then hung out on the line, and had fun watching it almost fly away. I don't know what the wind got up to today, but I would guess at least 30mph. Crazy. Was especially funny when I washed a load of fabric, and hung that out...I really thought that was going to take the clothesline and escape, especially the 5 yards of pink linen blend for a 1950s dress (yes! finally! a pink dress! all thanks to all the lovely pink things
reine_de_coudre makes, heh. I wanted something pink myself!).
I did get the pieces of my graduation dress cut out; I decided to use the berry plaid silk, mostly because I'd have to wear brown shoes with the voile, and the robe's black, and I don't want to do that. *grin* It's a good thing I realized that, because I really could not decide between the two for the longest time. And I don't know what I was thinking when I ordered the fabric...I thought I'd had this pattern in mind when I bought the fabric, but either I wasn't, I can't read, or I was seriously not sober, because I've got a whole yard left over. ??? Whatever. I think I might have lined up the plaid properly, but nobody hold their breath for that.

I'm satisfied with it. It's not the most thrilling thing I've ever made, but it's a bridesmaid dress, I didn't exactly think it would be! I do love the fabric, though; it's very pretty. And it won't fray because the bodice is lined and the skirt is french-seamed. Take THAT, evil fraying dupioni! And I promise I do clean up better than this, hah. Makeup, shoes, and Taming The Beast (aka my hair) will help. Hopefully I won't make asinine faces in all the wedding pictures, so I can put a few up here. No promises.
And now for some serious scheming. The friend who I've promised to help make an 18thc outfit this summer, M, just told me today that her mother just mentioned to her that one of her friends is into Civil War reenactment, and is having something at her house at the end of this month, and we can go if we want. HELLO OF COURSE I WANT! I'm not actually going to put money or time into this until I find out more details -- like whether M and I are actually going to go -- but the scheming has officially kicked into overdrive.
Mwahahaha, an excuse to do 1860s! Wasn't I saying a while back that I had no excuse to buy/make a crinoline,
reine_de_coudre ? Found one! I knew I made that 1869 Foy corset for a reason! (Actually I didn't. We all know I make stuff for no reason.)
And since this coming week's basically shot in regards to sewing, that means I'll have two weeks to make a crinoline, petticoat, and dress. Can I do that? Sure! (Um, can I? I don't actually know how long these things take. Those Who Know Better Than I can ruin my dream if they must.) Oh, and some sort of hat. Obviously. I loves me some hats. Another question: Do I have fabric for this? Didn't I say I wasn't going to buy any more fabric? Hum. Depends. To anyone who Knows Better Than I (and who is actually reading this whole yammering entry): About how much fabric goes into an 1860ish dress?
Okay, now I'm off to read and look at every 1860s costume ever made by my f-list and look at fabric sites. Yeah, and the Stash. Because this is all far more interesting than finishing up a quilt...
