mandie_rw: (breakfast outfit)

I got up early today so I could have a bit of time to work on my Lost Hope dress. Just a bit - I got the overdress fronts sewn together. I'd really like to get this dress done though...that way I can have something 1860s as The Other Project. I still want some accessories for when I do a shoot of it, but I don't want to take pictures of it in the dead of summer, so I'd be waiting a while anyway.

Wrinkly back is wrinkly...

Actually everything is wrinkly, haha.

And then I spent a good chunk of my day with the polonaise in my lap, sewing side pleats, side-back seams, the very weird bit where I had to sew the bottom of the skirt pleats to the lining but not the top fabric, the side seams of the skirt, and then started fussing with the hem. Roughly in that order. I haven't done a hem I couldn't level from the top in a while, and I'd forgotten how annoying it is!

This is pre-hem-fussing, and pre-side-seam-sewing, and I haven't fitted the shoulders yet, but it does look like a dress! Please note how wonderfully I did not match my prints. I mean, that's my signature touch, but I always have to point out that I wasn't trying to match and failing, haha. In my defense, this one's a very busy print. Which also means you can't really see what's going on here other than I look totally fed up. Am not - I'm quite pleased with it!

The loose fronts have a tendency to flap in the breeze a bit, but the trim will hopefully weight that down a little. And the print on one side isn't quite inked to the edge, as you can see, but, again, trim. I'll have to make sure I get some detail shots when it's all done, because you can't see crap  with this print!
