mandie_rw: me in late victorian dress holding book (natformbeige)
I was quite reasonably productive today! I set aside the afternoon to work on the dinner bodice for Belvidere, which meant I spent a solid 4-hour chunk fitting and cutting the bodice pieces out. Pretty good, though! The TV pattern was a good base to start with; I didn't have to do too much wrangling with the fit. There will definitely be some more dart adjustment to do, but that's never something to worry about in a mockup. I also lengthened the back of the bodice to give it a "tail" and added pleats, and trimmed up the sides to give it more of a CF point. And cut out the low, more square neckline that I wanted.

Cutting the bodice pieces was fussy, of course, because of stripe placement, and I'm still not sure I got the optimal results! I can never tell for sure til it's sewn together... they're very wide stripes (wider than I think is strictly period, but I got a good deal on some drapery silk so whatever), so I have at most 3 stripes on any one piece! And it's a taffeta and satin stripe, and the black satin stripe is impressively sheddy; I was covered in black threads when I was done!

Now I'm basting the striped silk to the lining fabric; I got two pieces done tonight, and can probably get the rest of them sewn tomorrow. And I need to order more plastic whalebone, I think. Will check that tomorrow.

Also need to drag out the underskirt and train...both for final bodice fitting, and because I was never 100% happy with how the stupid little swags on the striped part of the underskirt looked, so I may need to futz with that a bit.
