So I can have as many half-finished things at one time as possible, I decided to start working on my new ballgown today!
(That, and I was off today, which meant I had most of the day for sewing. I like to be working without a time limit when I'm doing mockups, if at all possible!)
I started with my 1860s day bodice pattern, rather than the one I made for the dress of 1000 triangles, as that one didn't thrill me. Slightly on the short side, and I want it to sit lower on the shoulder this time. Apparently starting with a day bodice that fits is a Super Idea, since I only had to go through two mockups. Not Bad. Still a lot of tweaking, but nothing I had to cut entirely new pieces for. Which is always nice, since I'm lazy.
I also did alllll the hand-basting of the satin to the lining too, which was wildly unexciting. I'm almost never so precise (pin and hope for the best is my usual motto), but I didn't want any satin going creep creep creep as I shoved it through the machine. I even basted the darts (somewhat unevenly). Be impressed.
And then I got it sewn together so it looks like something! A very shiny something. Yes, I decided on the right side. :D The back eyelets are up next - I want to try it on before I tack the boning over all the seam allowances, in case something funny happened with the fit. Because bodices are sneaky like that.
