Gettysburg Remembrance Day weekend 2013
Home in one piece! And my things are unpacked from my car...and left all over the floor immediately inside the side door where I dropped them. Unpacking and cleaning up tonight seems to be a lot to ask.
We neglected to get a picture of all our group on Saturday, but here's one of us at the ball Friday night, from Kat:

dragoneyes19,
hiraimi,
blackcat452, and
grace_lee_19c stayed in a (four-person, ahem) cabin at Gettysburg Campground, while the others wanted plumbing in the same building for some reason and so stayed in a hotel. What can I say, I have very low standards.
Anyway, we went to the Friday night ball - which may have been silly since I can't dance, but oh well, I wanted another wearing out of this dress. Judy's husband Steve had to dance with all of us in our turn. That poor man.

Robin and I were twinsies, completely by accident.

It was quite shocking.

(And as you can see I was not having a good hair night! I forgot my AquaNet, which made more of a difference than I thought it would, and after dancing it all went to hell.)
It was impossible to truly capture the tininess of that cabin and the destruction we wrought upon it, though I did try.

"Relaxing."

"How we know Alice has enough hair to smother herself in her sleep." We were concerned.

It's a SHOEBOX.

"Hello? Is there cell service in the 1860s??"

Saturday was shopping, eating, shopping, and of course the parade. I never bothered to get pictures of myself since it's my old dress (though I did put buttons on!), my old bonnet, and my old 1840s mantle.

Admire all my lurvely bunnits! I finished trimming Robin's on the drive out, and after we got back from the ball...but it WAS FINISHED.

In exchange, I got a lovely knitted sontag from Robin (and crocheted trim by Alice, who's going to make me a Regency reticule for her bonnet). It wasn't quite finished til Saturday night, which I think means there aren't any pictures of me wearing it in costume. But I've been wearing it quite cheerfully all day today - since it is cold! I think I'm going to wear it around all winter, because it's awesome.
Unfortunately blurry picture of boob warmers on display!

I was a bad photographer (though better than usual!) and only thought of taking proper outfit pictures of Robin and Alice while doddering around, waiting to see what dinner reservations Erin and Jess were finding. Actually I'm pretty sure it wasn't me that thought of it. Which is a shame, because Erin and Jess both had such pretty dresses! By the time we'd met up - camera? What camera? There's a camera in my pocket? *sigh*

And a few shots of dinner...during which we were treated to some snow flurries! I was hoping they'd last long enough to get pictures in, but no dice. Though they did make another appearance much later at night, when I was trekking to the bathroom to brush my teeth (while wearing the ugly nightgown!)...

Saturday night everyone met up at the Farnsworth House for a "seance" - it was supposed to be a theatrical recreation of a Victorian-type seance. It was theatrical. If I make it to Remembrance Day next year I think I'd like to try one of their ghost walks/tours instead.
After that, we went back to the shoebox and had a bit of a party, the way we do - with champagne and clotted cream. And then slept like the dead (or possibly better than...?), during which the temperature dropped into decidedly wintery weather! Our tiny heater tried bravely, but couldn't quite keep up. Needless to say, no one wanted to get out of bed this morning...
Once we finally hauled ourselves out, we made a brief (read: two-hour) stop in Needle & Thread, ate lunch in town, and very briefly debated the merits of seeing the battlefield, before deciding it was Too Damn Cold, and that it was better for everyone to get home so they could slump on their couches and be very glad to be done with the 1860s for now!
Although I'm planning to continue working on my 1860s pieces, actually. I've got only a small amount of work to do for the next event (fix sleeves on green and gold 18-teens dress I wore to the card party earlier this year), so it would be really awesome if I could get some of these sad abandoned pieces put away - and not in the UFO bin!
