Loser Luncheon

Since there were a few of us in the Philly area that couldn't make it to the Francaise Dinner for various reasons, I thought it might be fun to get together and do a Costume Thing that weekend to at least sort of make up for it. To that end, we went to City Tavern yesterday for lunch - the Tavern's a perfect setting for costumed lunches, and the owner loves when people show up in costume. (Free booze. Just sayin'. And Robin doesn't drink, so I got two. Win-win.)

Well, a win for me, anyway. Hee hee.

We even snagged another victim person; Grace, who might be interested in playing dress-up with us. Clearly we have too many clothes, as between Robin, Alice, and I, were able to outfit her pretty well. ;)

Finding one's pocket is definitely an art!

Best Alice face ever, I'm pretty sure.

And Adrienne and I had coordinating fabric, which was funny. She definitely matched her stripes better than I did! (Everybody matches their stripes better than I do. Hurrr.)

There was a definite preference for the turkey pot pie! In our defense, the turkey pot pie is pretty tasty.

Costumers on their cell phones never stops amusing me.

I was literally sewing ties on my petticoat while Robin and Alice were dressing Grace. Sewing them crappily, mind you - it's gathered to the ties instead of pleated, and the hem is just turned up once and sewn with inch-long stitches. But hey, it didn't fall off while I was wearing it! That was the important part, right? Despite that I think it's a very nice petticoat!

The jacket's all right. I've definitely managed to fit things better in the past - that's a lot of bodice wrinkles! But I've also fit things worse in the past, so, you know.

I managed to not match the design up at all at the side seams, as you can see there; I could have done better, except that I finished the end of the first panel and promptly forgot which small flower motif I'd ended on. Whoops. I are genuis.

I'll do a blog post about painting the petticoats soon; maybe tomorrow...
