Since there were a few of us in the Philly area that couldn't make it to the Francaise Dinner for various reasons, I thought it might be fun to get together and do a Costume Thing that weekend to at least sort of make up for it. To that end, we went to City Tavern yesterday for lunch - the Tavern's a perfect setting for costumed lunches, and the owner loves when people show up in costume. (Free booze. Just sayin'. And Robin doesn't drink, so I got two. Win-win.)

The jacket still needs trim sewn on, painted petti #1 needs to be leveled and pleated, painted petticoat #2 is about 2/3 painted. Hmmmmmm. Good thing I'm off tomorrow.

The jacket proper is finished; I decided to forge on with the trim (without taking any pics, oops) rather than petticoat-painting. It's maybe-not-quite-half-trimmed? Can't stay up late sewing tonight as I have to be up early tomorrow.

Soooo close to finishing the jacket! I had a bad case of the lazies today so I didn't work on it at all (and I actually did have a few other things to do). I did get the yellow ribbon for trim in the mail today (yellow was a good choice, self *nods*) and the package of inks from Dharma, which means I now have a small army of ink bottles sitting on the ironing board, staring me down. I promise to use you tomorrow, tiny inks!

Didn't quite finish the jacket as of yet but I might be able to before I go to bed? Very close!

As to the Loser Luncheon for this weekend, turns out Sunday works better, so Sunday the 13th at 2:15 at City Tavern, on the off chance anybody else was thinking of showing up!

I mocked up, fitted, cut out, and started sewing the sleeves for the green striped jacket today; mostly because I couldn't avoid them any more. Not that they took much mocking up or fitting, as I just tweaked the two-piece sleeve from the dress-in-a-day to make it just above wrist length. And I was personally offended at how much fabric stripe-matching wastes on those sleeves! Not even matching them at the seams, just so that lefts and rights matched each other. Sheesh.

I think I might be able to finish the jacket tomorrow, barring trim (which is in the mail - 3/4" butter-yellow silk satin ribbon. I almost bought a coordinating deep bisque, but then decided I'm more obnoxious than that), since I'm off. That would be good. We shall see!
mandie_rw: (regency winter)
Excellent weather today - the coldest temps of the winter so far and snow flurries were somehow very inspiring to make the most of my sewing time!

First I got the fitting done on the shoulder straps of the green pierrot jacket, and marked the CF while I was in stays. Sewed the shoulder straps and pinned in the lining for the tails - the body of the jacket is linen, but I decided to line just the tails in bronze silk scraps.

And then I felt motivated enough to actually try on the pelisse over all my gear, and decide exactly what I wanted to do with the fur. I decided I want an overlap at the front rather than edge to edge, which means there's not quite enough to do a real hem, oops. So I'm binding the CF edges instead of finishing them properly. You'll never know under the fur! Mwahahaha.

Time to fuss with the straps, which means stays! Not Tonight, though. Should do that tomorrow but I should also really file my taxes, so.

Horrible nighttime pictures ahoy:

Oh man, the stripes in the back got totally wobbly. OOPS.

Jacket!

2/3rds of jacket pieces are sewn together. Back stripes on one side may have gotten a bit wobbly. Definitely don't care enough to fix. One of the many excellent traits of satin: being annoying.

what?

Nothing like deciding you need a new pierrot jacket at nine at night!

I thought I'd live dangerously, and started with my dress-in-a-day 1780s bodice pattern, just shuffled some seam lines and drew in the tails. Right on the silk. We'll see how this pans out...
