Iz cranky

Following: another wah-wah-wah post in which I lament my lack of sewing skills.

I did finish the Burda dress (about time; it's pretty summery, so I can't wear it for that much longer), and it and I have had Issues. *scowl* I thought I had the pattern lined up, while the dress disagreed. The dress won that one. The side seams are fine, it's just the back that has problems...

Faaaaail.

Ugh, I hate everything right now. Especially the facking zillion mosquitoes that are everywhere, and insist on finding their way into the house as well as infesting the backyard.

At least that means List Progress...?
- 1950s print voile dress that needs to be hemmed and have the belt put together
- Burda 1960s-style blue and pink mini-dress that needs a zipper and a hem
- striped 1940s dress from another Butterick Retro pattern I've got that needs to be taken in so I'll actually wear it
- same for a black & white 50s dress
- early 1960s-style plaid silk dress, currently hidden in a bag because I sewed the sleeves on backwards, so it got shoved away in disgust a couple months ago
- 1947 Butterick Retro black & white striped dress and black jacket: finish dress, start jacket

If it makes you feel any better, I've put my gold Marie Antoinette dress scale model on top of my DVD shelf, and now every time I watch TV all I can see is all the things I did wrong on it. How did I not notice that the lace on one side was just slightly higher than the other?!

Hee, actually that does make me me feel better...sometimes it seems like everybody can sew everything perfectly except for me! I don't know why I always do that with sewing, pick out the things I did wrong so that's all I can see. I'm usually not a nitpicky person! Oh well.

Are they those wee black buggers? Those things are aweful! They're an invasive Japanese species that came over on a pallet through Newark about 3 years ago. They don't need standing water to breed (mud will do, or even the bit of water in your bathroom sink, as I saw before I moved) and they don't die when the frost comes, they hibernate. I lived around misquitoes my whole life, but when those buggers bite (and do they bite all over), they leave welts.

That blows. I think this is why I stay away from stripes and plaids (even though I love them), I'm so afraid I will screw them up. :P

Ohhh, those sound nasty! The ones currently bugging (haaa...) us actually just look like the regular annoyances, thankfully (I guess...?). Although maybe I should take a closer look...ones that don't need standing water to breed would make sense, since we don't have any in our yard. Though I could blame the neighbors for that one; some of them have lots of crap in their back yards!

Stripes and plaids are EVIL EVIL EVIL. The worst part of THIS particular fuckup is that I have made things out of stripes and plaids that I managed to match up a lot better than this. So I just screwed this one up. Awesome.
