That's the mid-Atlantic air museum, to you - and we only went Sunday! Next year we really ought to go Saturday, just because the regiments have to start packing up at 5 on Sunday, so it's not really a full day. There's also a dance Saturday night but I don't care as much about that because I'm a horrible dancer (it's a good thing I didn't actually live in Ye Oldey Timey Times in the past couple of hundred years when dances were such an important part of socializing...).

I know just about nothing about planes or the niceties of WWII (it's after my time...), but The Group usually doesn't turn down an opportunity to hang out with Mick when he's got one of his encampments! Always good company...and booze. ;)

I did not in fact finish my 1940 pin-dot dress, as you can see; it was at the almost-done-and-try-on-able state at 11.30 the night before, and I tried it on, and it was too big. An easy fix, but not at 11.30 the night before, when I had to get up at 6! I promise to post about it when it's actually done though. For this event, my old striped cotton 1947 Butterick Retro worked well enough! It's old enough that the fit's a little funky, but whatever.

Regarding the hat...Pro tip: Don't continuously forget that you need to re-dye the top of your vintage straw hat til the day before, because it will not dry, and you will have to grab your black straw 18thc hat as you're running out the door in the morning! I don't think it actually looked too terrible, but it would keep sliding down the back of my head. Very annoying. Also an excellent wind-catcher, which, considering the weather, was Not Really Helpful. On-and-off scattered rain all afternoon, windy, and I don't think it went past 68F at most. Which is all well and good (and I'd much rather have that than 90!), but we were all prepared for summer! I'm actually glad I didn't finish my pin-dot dress, as it was a sundress and a little short-sleeved bolero, that I wouldn't have been able to wear a cardigan over. And I wore a cardigan, all day too!

We carried our paper parasols around all day, too....which was a bit silly but we wanted nice props for Documentary Photo Purposes!
(Hideous face due to parasol complaints! Probably.)

The planes were pretty cool, although I know nothing about them and am not really interested enough to actively find out any details. It's really impressive to think that they're all three-quarters of a century old, though! Very loud, too. There were never more than four or five up at once, but it gave just a glimpse of how terrifying a sky full of enemy planes would have been back then. And the little fighter planes did all these loop-de-loops and twists and turns and dives and... *shudder* My 1940s self decidedly thinks that if God had meant for me to fly like that, he would have given me wings. As it is, I'll keep my feet firmly on the ground, thanks!

Wandered around for awhile looking for Mick, but as all men in khaki look pretty much the same from behind, we had to wait til we spotted him bicycling past. We were amused to see he totally didn't recognize us at first, which, as I think most of us have only been wearing Victorian when we've seen him before, is fair. Got invited back to camp for drinkies, where we proceeded to plant ourselves under the dining fly and probably take over other people's spots (which I felt slightly guilty about, but I suspect they're used to Mick inviting mobs of women back to camp, LOL).

We also were offered a Jeep ride around the site by one of Mick's acquaintances. Is it raining a tiny bit? Yes. Are we going to turn down a cute young guy in uniform giving us a ride? Hale naw! We tooled around the site twice ("Want to go around again?" *unanimous shout of "YES!"*), and I'll be very disappointed if no random photos pop up of us on our drive, because I cannot doubt we looked exceedingly picturesque!  I definitely saw cameras out. Hey, a Jeep full of pretty ladies (and Mick)? Can't lose. *grin*

As I mentioned, the reenactors had to start packing up at 5, so we were given the boot far earlier than we would have voluntarily got up (and if it hadn't been cold), but we drove back to Robin's Party House and partied a bit more. By which I mean ordered pizza and just about fell asleep on the sofa. Real party animals, we are.

Generally misbehaving, as usual.

Pretty sky! Pretty friends!

And I couldn't resist playing with a few of the photos and making them look more '40s...because that is definitely what I should be doing rather than going to bed. *nods*

So...we're definitely going back next year, and we're definitely going Saturday, and I am definitely going to make it a point to have a couple of Reading-appropriate dresses in different weights in my closet!

I LOVE that top right b/w photo in the jeep! It looks just like photos you'd come across from the time of people just hanging out together and having fun car rides. :D

This makes me want to be able to bring the coupe out next year, though according to Mick I'd need to get it there Thursday and not bring it home until Sunday, which is not fun when it's an hour and a half away... How fun it would be, though, with two or three people back in the rumble seat!
